Known Issues & Hotfixes

Big Walk launched August 4, 2026 to strong reviews — including a sky-high Metacritic critic score in its first days — and an enthusiastic co-op community. Launch weeks still bring rough edges. This page tracks verified issues and developer statements so your party knows what is a bug, what is intentional proximity design, and what to do tonight while a patch is cooking.

For the full launch feature set see Version 1.0 Launch Notes. For day-to-day voice habits see Proximity Chat. We only list problems confirmed by House House, Panic, store pages, or widespread reproducible reports — not every frustrated Steam comment.

Active: proximity voice too quiet (acknowledged)

Status: Acknowledged by House House (August 5, 2026 statements on Steam / press). Fix “as soon as we can” — not yet mirrored here as a numbered patch until notes ship.

Symptom: Friends sound far quieter than intended even when standing next to you. Players crank master volume to unsafe levels and still miss callouts. Some Steam reviews called long sessions with maxed volume “unhealthy” for ears.

What is intentional vs buggy: Big Walk should fade voices with distance, walls, and walkie crackle. That is the fantasy. The bug is when close-range speech is still tiny on some audio setups.

Official tone (paraphrased): House House understands friends’ voices are too quiet for some players, apologizes, clarifies that distance attenuation is intended, and confirms close-range levels are wrong for certain configurations. A fix is in progress.

Workarounds until the hotfix lands

  1. Raise voice / chat sliders first, not only master music — if your platform exposes separate categories.
  2. Prefer headphones with a known flat profile over TV speakers that bury dialogue.
  3. Stand closer and face teammates during critical callouts; use Walkie-Talkies when split.
  4. Do not max every slider for hours — protect your hearing; take breaks.
  5. Keep a silent backup language: laser pointers, flares, whiteboards, gestures — Signaling Tools, Gestures.
  6. Hybrid Discord only for accessibility, then mute it during speechless puzzle rooms so you do not train bad habits forever.

If a future patch adds a dedicated microphone or voice volume slider, we will document it here and on the Updates Hub the same day.

Launch commercial context (not bugs)

Not issues, but players ask during launch week:

  • Price: about $19.99 USD; Steam ran a limited introductory 25% discount (watch the store end date).
  • Bundle: Steam Big Walk + PEAK bundle with an extra bundle discount — buy only if you want both games.
  • PS Plus Essential: day-one monthly game with a widely listed claim window through September 1, 2026PS Plus & Price.
  • Xbox: still not available.

Practical session advice during voice bugs

Run a thirty-second volume check at the trailhead every night. If two players still cannot hear each other at arm’s length, switch that pair to walkie + text for the session and shorten puzzle nights. Frustration from audio bugs feels like “this game is broken” even when the island design is fine.

Hosts should announce “we are on workaround rules tonight” so guests do not assume someone is ignoring them.

When House House ships the voice fix, celebrate by turning the music back down and hearing your friends whisper stupid plans from two meters away — as intended.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Big Walk questions.

Is the quiet voice problem intentional?

Distance-based quieting is intentional. Voices that stay too quiet even when teammates are close are a acknowledged launch bug House House is fixing.

Has a patch already fixed the microphone issue?

As of this wiki update, House House has acknowledged the issue and promised a fix ASAP. Check this page and the Updates Hub for the numbered hotfix when it ships.

What should we do tonight if voices are too quiet?

Use headphones, raise voice sliders carefully, stand closer, rely on walkie-talkies and visual signals, and avoid maxing volume for hours.

Where does House House post fixes?

Steam news and official channels linked from bigwalk.game and @house_house_. We mirror verified notes on the Updates Hub.

Is progress loss a known bug?

Usually the party rejoined the wrong host. Confirm host-owned saves before filing a bug report.
